Amaranth
Amaranth is a good source of fiber, protein, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, and iron, along with several other important micronutrients.
Sounds great, but what is it?
Amaranth has recently gained traction in the health food industry. The ancient grain has been a dietary staple in many parts of the world for centuries. Amaranth is high in several antioxidants, such as gallic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid and vanillic acid, which may help protect against disease.
Health Benefits of Amaranth
Amaranth is packed with dense nutrients. It can help with brain functions, muscle contraction, bone health, protection against heart disease and cancer, inflammation, cholesterol levels, and weight loss. Animal and test-tube studies show that amaranth may have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. Studies also show that amaranth may help reduce levels of total and “bad” LDL cholesterol. Being high in protein and fiber, Amaranth may help reduce appetite and increase weight loss.
