Your wedding is one of the most magical days of your life! You’ll be overtaken by pure joy and levels of love you never could have imagined. SOAK UP EVERY MOMENT!
Even after it’s over, you’ll still be smiling from ear to ear walking on cloud nine, but you might also start to be sad that it’s over. Some people even get anxious or feel a bit depressed.
Understand it’s natural!
First I want to reassure you it’s totally normal to feel bittersweet after your wedding! After any high in life, there is a low. But the low doesn’t have to win out!
Personally, I’ve spent most of my life letting those low moments rob me of happy moments. For years my solution was to immediately set my eyes on that next peak in life. But then I realized this strategy always had me running ahead to what’s next rather than fully enjoying what’s happening now.
But your wedding is something you should cherish forever. I want to help you stay ahead of this so that you can keep that happiness and on top of the world feeling alive even after your special day. Here is what worked for me even with adrenal fatigue.
1. give your adrenal system a reboot
After any high in life, there is a low and our adrenal systems produce different hormones to keep up with these exciting moments. Caring for your adrenal system during such a time will help you immensely. My own adrenal system is significantly fatigued so this is something I’ve learned to be extremely proactive with.
After thyroid cancer and years of PTSD, I don’t bounce back as fast after the lows of excitement, exhaustion, and alcohol. As a result, I experience anxiety, minor panic attacks, and sometimes even extreme fear or sadness. Knowing this I planned ahead for the few days after the wedding. My secret weapon is a magnesium supplement, b vitamins, calming herbal teas, superfoods, leafy greens, and REST. Incorporate these into the days leading up to, during, and after your wedding.
2. plan a day or two to just rest and recharge
I know vacation time is precious but trust me you will want a day or two to just rest and relax after the festivities! A day to ease back into reality and recharge will be necessary for your mind, body, and soul. Even if you are going on your honeymoon right away, factor in a day after to recharge at home. You adrenal and nervous system will be at an all-time high and recharging your body will do wonders for your overall attitude, energy, and mental state.
3. avoid the post-wedding binge
I’m guessing you ate exceptionally clean and healthy leading up to your wedding. I’m sure you’ll look and feel amazing! Revel in it, this is your day to SHINE!
Enjoy the wedding, the delicious foods, and celebratory cocktails but if I can give you any advice… try not to spiral into a full-on binge after the wedding. Going from one extreme to the other will be a shock to your system. It makes you feel bloated, sluggish and will undoubtedly make you crave even more treats which will trigger a negative downward spiral on your mind and body.
One of the best ways to get ahead of any post-wedding blues is to be proactive will the foods you eat after the wedding. Enjoy yourself, but plan to detox after the wedding. Stock your fridge with lots of leafy greens, fruits and vegetables, hydrate with electrolytes, plan a cleanse, or just ease back into a very clean diet for a few days. The foods you eat impact your mood, digestion, and overall nervous system more than you can imagine! Here is another post with some post celebratory detox tips
4. write a letter to yourself or create a marriage vision board
You’re going to be experiencing so many emotions after your wedding. You’ll still be on a high walking on cloud nine but you might also start to be really sad that it’s over. A really great way to pull yourself back to the moment, and keep those magical moments alive is by writing a letter to yourself. Write down everything about the special day. Capture how you felt, your favorite moments, all the beautiful details – write it all down do you can go back and read it whenever you want to relive the magic.
Also, write what you are most excited about now that you are married. What does your dream marriage look like? What type of life are you excited to build with your new husband? Maybe you can even make a date night of it or create a marriage vision board with your man. Make it fun and get excited about your future!
5. plan some exciting things to look forward to
We planned our honeymoon for a few weeks after the wedding and I’m so glad we did. Not only because we were completely gassed after the wedding, but it also gave us something exciting to look forward to.
Even if you are going on your honeymoon right away, plan ahead for some other exciting things. I started a new workout program I was excited about 4 days after the wedding and I won’t lie the endorphin release was magical!
You can also plan a romantic date for the next week or month. Host dinner for family and friends where you get to use all the new homey gifts you got. Plan that vision board session, a mini trip for the future, or a time to go through all your new pictures. Think of some fun ideas and put it on your calendar!
6. shift your perspective
I’m big on perspective so I cannot leave this one out. We choose the way we perceive the world. While it’s bittersweet that this magical celebration is coming to an end, it’s also a wonderful new beginning in your life. Whenever you find yourself feeling sad the wedding is over pause, and either mentally or out loud tell yourself my dream wedding is the beginning of my dream marriage. Then visualize what your magical marriage looks like and experience all the happiness that comes with it.
From one newlywed to another – Wishing you a life (not just a day) full of so much love, laughter, cheer, and maybe even dancing 😉
