The Way You Talk to Yourself Matters
In case you didn’t hear it the first time, the way you talk to yourself matters!
I love this quote by Willy Nelson, “Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.”
Our thoughts dictate our life. Don’t believe me… read the rest of this post, pay attention to your thoughts, and reflect on the outcome. 😉
Nowadays it’s really easy to put everyone else’s needs ahead of your own. Our own self worth is almost tied to other people’s happiness. We want to be loved and accepted so pleasing other people helps us to do that. But the more you put everyone and everything else above yourself, the more your metaphorical cup starts to deplete.
You have to be your own best friend. You have to make yourself and your self care a priority. You deserve all the good that comes with it!
Letting Go of the Guilt
If you want to give others the very best of you, you have to be a number one priority in your own life. When I tell that to my clients, the first thing that they say is, “But I feel so guilty putting myself first.”
But the truth is, taking care of yourself physically and emotionally is so important. You should not feel guilty treating yourself the same way you would treat a close friend. Letting go of the guilt associated with self0care allows you to strengthen yourself and give others the very best of you.
How do You Talk to Yourself?
Our mind is tricky. It runs away from us. Often, our subconscious is programmed with thoughts that don’t align with our true self. Our thoughts get shaped and molded by our environment and surroundings over the years, and when we start to think about how we talk to ourselves it may become apparent that you are beating yourself up without even realizing it. Start now. Pay attention to the way you talk to yourself.
Once you become aware of your thought patterns, it’s time to start training your mindset. When those negative, self-conscious, self-doubting thoughts creep in, pause. Reflect on those feelings, and then recite a mantra that pushes your mind to a place of positivity. Keep doing this over and over. Reframing your thoughts and repeating positive mantras will help shift your perspective and help you walk through life with confidence. Acknowledging your self worth commands your attention. It’s powerful!
Create a Daily Mantra
Come up with an affirming mantra. What do you wish someone would tell you each day? What do you need to be reminded of? What would make you feel empowered or more confident about who you are, where you are, and what you are doing in life?
Take a minute and write down your mantra. You can put it on a sticky note, type it out on your laptop or write it as a note in an app.
Now, schedule it as an alarm on your phone and say it out loud to yourself each day. Saying it out loud is so important. You need to HEAR it. So say it, listen to it, and lastly believe it!.
