Stories of Empowering Overcomers
“JUST KEEP GOING” This was the advice that came out of such an amazing chat with one hell of an overcomer recently.
Everyone meet Bridget. I could go on and on raving about how inspiring this women is. Learning about her struggles, her hardships.. and how she’s been able to persevere through SO MUCH with suck positivity, compassion, & kindness is truly unbelievable.
Her story is one of true strength and I feel honored to share some of it with you today.
In short Bridget is a warrior with a fighter spirit. She’s been fighting FSGS for 18 years now, had 2 kidney transplants, and was most recently diagnosed with kidney cancer. Her life and health has been an uphill battle. But despite all of this – she is such a ray of light!
In sharing her story not once did I hear sadness or fear come through. Instead she sounded full of live, energy, & optimism. Her positive joy is actually infectious!
When I told her this, her response was quick fire back… “Well after years of living with it, I had to figure out a new way to THRIVE AND GET THROUGH IT ALL. I MAY NOT HAVE CONTROL OF MY BODY BUT I HAVE CONTROL OF MY ATTITUDE”
All I could think as she said this was YES YES YES, AMEN!- preach my dear! This is what being proactive with you life and living life on purpose regardless of what comes your way is all about.
She then went on to talk about how everything she’s been through has given her so much more perspective in life… It’s helped her realize how silly it is to get upset about the small things. That there are people all around the world suffering.. “And that in the grand scheme of things, what really matters is living your life with compassion and kindness.”
Her story is one that gives you hope.
As we wrapped up I asked her a couple of questions as a way to inspire each of us even more…
- What got you through it all? – “My Mom. She was always there and I couldn’t imagine not having her”.
- What was the greatest lesson you learned through all the adversity? –“Just keep GOING” There will be times that are really hard. But you are braver than you know or think you are. Good things & bad things will come but as long as you keep going things will be ok”
- What does Living Life on Purpose mean to you? – “Try to make each day count for something. Try to learn, reach out to someone- do something so at the end of the day you can look back and say I was able to do this. Be present in the moment, and really try to be present, be there, and live your life. If you want to do something that makes you happy do it. Suck every drop out of life that you can.”
- What’s next? – “She’s always thought too much about where she wasn’t able to go before. Now she just wants to figure out what makes her happy and build her life from there. What’s next is to be determined”
So many powerful messages. Such an inspiration.
Thank you Bridget for being one of the first ladies I feature in this new project I am getting off the ground. There is so much adversity and negativity in the world.. my hope is that in sharing stories of overcomers like you… of ladies leaning into their adversity, standing tall when all odds seem against them, doing what they can to Live Life on Purpose… we can spread a little more positivity and empowerment throughout the world. We can be a light for others.
