Everywhere you look, someone is talking about personal growth or personal development. The two can be used interchangeably to explain how someone is improving their habits, behaviors, actions, reactions, or overall life. These are the the powerful things that create our reality and dictate how much joy and peace we let into our life.
The truth is, most people assume they will grow automatically as life goes on, but that’s not necessarily the case. Personal growth is a pillar of progress that requires intentional action if you want to get the very best out of life.
Your life and success will only rise to the level that you allow yourself to grow to.
So what are some ways you can fuel your personal growth and development?
1. Learn Something New
When is the last time you learned something new? The last time you stepped out of your comfort zone or challenged yourself? A huge part of personal growth is the hunger to keep learning new things. Whether it’s about a hobby, passion, or yourself, you should always be striving to learn new things. Keep an open mind, follow your curiosity, and grow your knowledge and skills. You will find that learning something new which pertains to one area of your life (say work or business) will often spill over into other areas (like your relationships).
2. Volunteer Your Time
Not only does volunteering help others in need, it can also benefit you. Volunteering provides a chance to learn new hard and soft skills, as well as a chance to form new relationships and connections. Giving to others can also help protect your mental and physical health by reducing stress, combating depression, and providing mental stimulation and a sense of purpose (helpguide).
3. Travel Often
Traveling is a gateway for creativity, inspiration and a fresh perspective. We are surrounded by the same type of people, culture, and beliefs for the majority of our lives. Traveling is a way to open up your mind to new ways of thinking. You don’t have to book an expensive flight half way across the world to reap the benefits of traveling! Hop in the car and head to a nearby state for the weekend, or simply check out a new neighborhood in your city. New people and places will awaken your senses.
4. Focus on your Health & Wellness
Everyone knows that I am a huge advocate for a healthy lifestyle, both mentally, physically and spiritually. It’s something I focus on with every single one of my clients because the impact is substantial. Get enough sleep, hydrate, and workout for at least 30 minutes a day and you will see significant changes in your mood and energy levels. And if you are doing all three of those things, it’s time to incorporate additional health and wellness opportunities into your life. Remember, personal growth isn’t about staying stagnant, it’s about continuously pushing yourself to the next level of who you are.
5. Pause & Reflect on your Life
This is something we have to do with intention. It’s important to stop and think about the progress you have made. I always remind my clients to celebrate progress.
Even slow progress is progress. Be honest with yourself as you journey through life. Acknowledge where you are excelling as well as where you are falling short. If you need a little help, I love working with individuals one on one to identify areas of their life where they are thriving versus surviving. Not only do we identify them, but we also create an action plan for personal growth to elevate the areas of your life where you are struggling.
As a starting point – Reflect back on how you have grown recently and then create a list of skills you would like to learn or grow in this year. Once you have a list of the skills you would like to learn, create three action steps that you can take RIGHT NOW.
6. Prioritize Your Priorities (Time Management)
You can’t prioritize your priorities if you don’t outline what they are. Many people will find that when they actually write down their priorities in life, their time management doesn’t align with those priorities AT ALL. Most of us spend time on things that are low on our priority list, so I challenge you to think about your top three priorities in life. Once you have them written down, think about how you can shift your schedule to ensure those three priorities get the absolute best of you.
All six of these actions are about improving your habits, behaviors, actions, and reactions. If personal growth and development are important to you, I highly encourage you to enroll in our FREE Best Life Boot Camp. It’s a 7 day email challenge that delivers actionable prompts to your inbox.
I believe we all have greatness in us. That you’re a force to be reckoned with when you’re passionate about something and that you can move mountains when you set your mind to something. But capitalizing on that greatness doesn’t just happen by chance. It takes intentional action. Personal growth is a great starting point!
Let me help you capitalize on all of your greatness
