Happiness, it’s what we’re all after on this beautiful journey of life, am I right?
So why does it come in waves?
Why does it come and go?
Why does it feel like a sought after goal and not a way of life?
This post will help you understand why and give you a formula for even more happiness in your life.
What is happiness?
In short, you feel happy when your current life circumstances match up to the blueprint you have for your life.
I bet you’re thinking ok that sounds great… but what exactly does that mean Nicole?
We all have stories in our minds about how we think life is supposed to be. A blueprint for how we think our life should unfold for us to feel happy, fulfilled, and successful.
The stories become our identity and inner navigational guide in life.
When your life unfolds in alignment with those stories/blueprints you feel happy.
When your life doesn’t match up with that story or blueprint you feel unhappy.
Here are some examples of shared stories and blueprints we follow:
- Supposed to go to school, get a job, climb the corporate ladder, fall in love, buy the house, start a family, live happily ever after
- Supposed to start a business or do something of great significance
- Supposed to go to school, join the family business, take over the family business
There are many versions of these stories. Many of them have evolved over the years as a society, and the world has progressed. But one that seems to stay consistent for all of us is that for you to feel like enough, you have to accomplish an enormous amount in life.
So how to do you get ahead of this so you can feel happy?
You feel happy when your current life situation in each area matches the blueprint of how you think it should be, when it matches your story.
Steps to feel happier in life
The secret to experiencing more happiness in your life starts by discovering the current story and blueprint that is navigating you through life.
What is the story you have in your head about how life’s supposed to be? About who you are supposed to be?
A great way to figure this out is to look at one area of your life you are really happy in right now.
- What is an area of your life you are happy in right now?
- Why are you happy with it?
Your answer to why you are happy will tell you the blueprint you have for this part of your life.
If you want to feel happy in other parts of your life…
- Start by asking what am I unhappy about in my life right now?
- Why am I unhappy with it?
This answer will show you what you believe your life should look like at this point in time.
Example:
- What is an area of life you feel happy with right now? – For me, I’m happy with my body
- Why? It’s not perfect, but I feel strong, energized, and confident.
This tells me that the blueprint I have for my body is that I should feel strong, energized, and confident. When I’m caring for myself in a way that this is how I feel, I’m happy with my body. If 3 months from now I’m unhappy with my body it’s because I’m not taking action that makes me feel strong, energized, and confident.
Once you have these stories you have 2 options.
- If the thought of reaching that story lights you up and is possible – Take action to change your life so that you are moving towards the benchmarks in your blueprint
- If the story and blueprint feel like something you should do rather than want to do or it is something that is physically not possible – then it’s time to change your blueprint.
So from the above example…
To get back to being happy with my body I can:
- Take action through exercise, nutrition, and healthy habits
- If I break my leg, however, that might not be possible right now, so it would be changing my blueprint. How can I feel happy about my body now that you have to adapt your routines? What do I want my new story to be? What story will make me happy and then what action can I take towards that?
Something to keep in mind…
Remember, you feel happy when your current life situation in each area matches the blueprint of how you think it should be, when it matches your story.
But you can change your story at any time. Nothing is fixed in this beautiful life you have. You have the freedom to make it whatever you want it to be!
If you need help discovering and rewriting the story of your life, that’s where working with a coach can be life-changing. More often than not, we can be completely blinded to the strengths, roadblocks, and opportunities right in front of us. The role of a coach is to help you see all of this more clearly so you can highlight the greatness that is already inside of you and make the most of your life.
My experiences and training gifted me with the ability to understand and predict human behavior. I have a way of seeing a person’s strengths, passions, roadblocks, and potential impact on the world.
MY SPECIAL GIFT IS HELPING YOU SEE THIS POTENTIAL AND TRUTH MORE CLEARLY FOR YOURSELF.
