What you need more than anything for motivation
Feeling stuck in life, it’s probably one of the most frustrating feelings…
You have this burning desire that you’re meant for more and know you’re capable of taking it to the next level but have no idea what the next step should be.
You can’t help but think that you should feel happy, proud, and successful for all you do have, but really you feel bored, disconnected, physically, and mentally drained.
You’re easily distracted by things that don’t give you a sense of meaning and feel stuck on what your next steps should be.
It’s becoming a vicious, overwhelming, and lonely cycle of low confidence, confusion, and unhappiness.
Now you feel all this pressure to figure it out, but at the same time almost paralyzed to action.
You’re not alone!
We all go through phases where we feel this way. Some of us even stay stuck in this place our whole life, which is truly heartbreaking.
Today I want to share something that will help you understand why this stuck feeling happens and how you can stay ahead.
What makes you feel stuck
Abraham Maslow was an American psychologist who was best known for creating Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. A motivational theory in psychology comprising a five-tier model of human needs, often depicted as hierarchical levels within a pyramid.
In simple terms, this pyramid breaks down the needs that motivate us in life. The needs that when met, lead to our most happy and fulfilled life.
While there is quite a bit of focus on the first 4 needs in our life – physiological, safety, love/belonging, and esteem, few people actually talk about or make the top need a priority in their life. The need for self-actualization that comes with personal growth.
As humans, we’re driven for progress. We have a burning desire to reach our full potential. When we are limiting that potential or holding ourselves back we become unmotivated, anxious, unhappy, and maybe even resentful in life. Over time this is what robs us our passion, motivation, and zest for life. It’s what makes us feel stuck
There are Signals
The good news is your body signals you when one of your needs are not being met.
- When you need food – you feel hungry
- When you need connection- you crave love
- When you’re in need of growth – you feel like you’re stuck
So the next time you feel stuck, find peace in knowing it’s just your inner potential telling you it needs more growth. And the even better news… growth is something you can control!
The solution
While reaching your potential is a life long journey, it’s something that will evolve and change as you evolve and change, committing to personal growth is something you can easily do daily.
And when you do, that’s when feel more at peace with who you are and the direction of your life.
- So to stay ahead of complacency make a habit of personal growth. Commit to listening to, watching, or reading something that either educates, inspires, or empowers you for just 10 minutes each day. Podcasts, youtube, and audiobooks make it so easy to incorporate personal growth into even the busiest and most chaotic of schedules.
- And the next time you find yourself feeling stuck – pause. Slow down and give yourself a chance to reflect and connect to yourself.
Then ask yourself these questions:
- In what area of my life do I feel stuck?
- What is something new I can learn that will elevate me in this area of life?
- What is something I’ve always been intrigued by and how can I learn more about?
- What am I afraid to do that I really want to do?
Take one of those questions and come up with 3 small action steps you can take. With that will come action motivation, passion, and even more action.
