Answer this question for me, I’ll feel successful and happy when…
Sadly, modern-day life has conditioned us to think our happiness is the result of our success or accomplishments.
As a result, we’re constantly striving for more and hoping that when we reach a certain level of success, we’ll finally feel fulfilled and whole.
But more often than not, when you do reach that level, there is still this void and empty feeling. All you’ve accomplished is still not enough. So you immediately shift your focus to the next benchmark for success.
Part of this is healthy because we are driven for progress and growth is what fuels you in life.
But there is also a trend, an unhealthy epidemic where we are constantly striving for more, never feel like enough, and letting external factors dictate when we will be happy or at peace in our life.
It’s part of why anxiety is so high nowadays, we’re always thinking ahead to what’s next rather than enjoying where we are now.
It’s a life long pattern and the norm in society, so breaking the cycle can take time, but it’s possible!
Here are 5 ways you can get started so you can feel more fulfilled in your life.
1. Get clear on your own definition of success.
What does success really mean to you? Not success based on what other people tell you to do or what you think you should do – but what does success really mean to you? What does would your most fulfilling, happy, and whole life look and feel like?
My favorite definition of success is from Maryanne Williamson – “Success means we go to sleep at night knowing that our talents and abilities were used in a way that they served others.”
2. Lead with your values
Rather than looking outward, I want to encourage you to look inward for fulfillment and happiness. One of the most powerful ways to ground yourself in this area is by taking the time to get clear on what your values and priorities are. When you live in alignment with your values, everything feels right from within. If you need help in this area, I have a special gift for you. 3. Lead with what brings you joy
When is the last time you checked in to make sure your life is going in the direction you really want it to go? That you checked in to make sure you are actually enjoying your life? Sadly it’s way too easy to live on autopilot in life. But the longer you walk through the motions the more likely you are to feel unfulfilled. Happiness is a beautiful thing and when you follow the things that bring you joy, powerful shifts happen in your life.
4. Look at success as a daily benchmark in addition to long term goals
How can you carry yourself each day so that when you go to bed you feel a sense of accomplishment, success, and happiness? Taking it from a long term goal to a day to day check-in is a powerful way to feel more present, happy, and in control of your life. Each day focus on being fully present in your life and make it a habit to ask yourself how can I bring more joy to what I am doing now. This helps you enjoy the journey rather than just the destination.
5. use inner peace as your navigational guide
What if instead of leading with struggle or constantly doing more, you led with what brings you a sense of peace? If you let your own inner peace be your navigational guide in life? This is probably one of the most powerful shifts you can make because it helps you connect to your true self and feel at peace with who you are.
How do you feel like enough in a world that pressures you to constantly strive for more?
